Frequently Asked Questions
-
What kind of content does Avalon Capital Research produce?
Avalon produces two types of published research. The Closing Bell is our daily market debrief, covering each session's key index moves, standout stocks, macro developments, and what they mean going forward. Our long-form equity research on Seeking Alpha covers individual companies in sectors like biotech, surgical robotics, semiconductor equipment, and alternative asset managers. Beyond our published work, we also provide commercial due diligence reports and contract research for private equity funds and family offices evaluating acquisitions or monitoring portfolio companies.
-
How is Avalon different from financial news sites or brokers?
We are not a newsroom and we are not trying to be the fastest to publish. We do not have a trading desk, or asset management fees that could create conflicts. Avalon is a fully independent research operation. Our revenue comes from subscriptions and contract research engagements, not from transaction fees or commission-based recommendations. That structure means our only incentive is to get the analysis right.
-
Who is Avalon’s research for, professionals or individual investors?
Our published research is written for anyone who takes investing seriously, from institutional allocators and fund managers to self-directed investors running meaningful personal capital. Our contract research and due diligence services are built specifically for private equity funds, family offices, and independent sponsors that need analytical depth without hiring a full-time analyst team.
-
How does Avalon remain independent?
Avalon is not an investment bank, broker-dealer, or asset manager. We do not manage money and we do not earn transaction-based fees. Our revenue comes from newsletter subscriptions and contract research engagements with fund clients. That keeps us aligned with the quality of our analysis rather than the volume of trades or assets under management.
-
Do you cover markets outside the United States?
Our primary focus is US-listed companies and the US equities market. That said, when international developments like global policy shifts, currency moves, or geopolitical events have a material impact on domestic markets, we bring that analysis into our coverage.
-
Where can I sign up for the free newsletter?
You can subscribe to the Closing Bell directly from our homepage, or find us on the Substack app by searching Avalon Capital Research. The newsletter is free and publishes after every trading session.
-
What services does Avalon offer beyond the newsletter?
We provide commercial due diligence and contract research for private equity funds, family offices, and independent sponsors. CDD reports cover market sizing, competitive dynamics, financial performance, balance sheet analysis, peer benchmarking, risk assessment, and valuation. Each report is delivered as a Board and Investment Committee-ready standalone document. We also offer ongoing contract research support, including sector coverage, pipeline screening, portfolio company monitoring, and LP reporting assistance. If you have a specific need, reach out through our Contact page and we will scope it from there.
-
How can I work with Avalon on a research engagement?
Contact us through our Contact page. We will discuss the scope of what you need (a single CDD report, ongoing sector coverage, or a broader embedded research arrangement) and put together a proposal. Most engagements begin with a call to make sure our capabilities match your requirements.
