About Avalon

"We started Avalon Capital Research because we were tired of financial media that talks a lot without saying much. The goal is simple: research on US-listed companies and the forces that move markets, written clearly enough to act on. If it doesn't help you make a better decision, we haven't done our job."

- John Austin, Founder

Our Approach

The analysis is our own.

We publish around major earnings and the events that move prices, so readers see the implications before the market fully prices them in. We build our research using data aggregated from top-tier news, data, and proprietary financial models, not aggregated headlines. Every piece is meant to leave you with information you can put to use.

What We Cover

Avalon covers the full spectrum of US markets.

At the company level, we dig into earnings, management commentary, and competitive dynamics across sectors from technology to energy to healthcare. We track the bigger picture too: interest rate moves, credit conditions, sector rotations, and the capital flow data that shows where institutional money is heading.

Washington, the Federal Reserve, and shifting global trade dynamics run straight to equity valuations, and we follow those threads closely. When event-driven catalysts surface, whether M&A activity, guidance changes, or geopolitical disruptions, we publish analysis while there is still time to act on it.

Our published research comes in two forms. The Closing Bell is our daily market debrief, covering each session's key index moves, standout stocks, macro developments, and what they mean going forward. Our long-form equity research, published on Seeking Alpha, digs into individual companies across sectors like biotech, surgical robotics, semiconductor equipment, and alternative asset managers.

Our Services

Beyond our published research,

Avalon works directly with private equity funds, family offices, and institutional investors on a contract basis.

  • Beyond our published research, we work directly with private equity funds, family offices, and institutional investors on a contract basis.

Typical clients manage between $10M and $250M and need the same depth of research and diligence a larger organization runs internally, without carrying a full-time analyst bench.

Commercial due diligence reports cover market sizing, competitive positioning, financial performance analysis, balance sheet review, peer benchmarking, risk assessment, and valuation, delivered as a Board and Investment Committee-ready standalone document. We have completed projects for clients across a wide range of sectors, including biotech, surgical robotics, semiconductor equipment, trucking and logistics, expedited freight, B2B SaaS, FinTech, AI, and manufacturing.

We also provide ongoing contract research support: sector coverage, pipeline screening, portfolio company monitoring, and LP reporting assistance. If your team needs analytical depth on a specific deal, sector, or portfolio question, we can scope an engagement around it.

  • There is no shortage of financial commentary online.

Most of it reads like a sell-side note that needs an accountant to decode, or a blog post with more opinions than data. We sit between those two extremes, applying institutional-grade analysis in a format any serious investor can read and use. We do not manage money. We do not run a trading desk. Our only incentive is to get the analysis right.

  • Good research should make you more informed about a company or a market, not just confirm what you already think. We try to be honest about what the data says, even when the conclusion is not the popular one. Every piece starts with a question worth answering and ends with a view we are willing to stand behind.
